Exadata Bundle Patching or Platinum Patching 

EXADATA Engineered System.

Oracle provides its customer with platinum supports for Exadata Engineered Systems and patching Exadata Engineered System regular routine and keeps system at its best practice.

To understand Platinum patching starting to end is challenging part, This blog will simplifies understanding of  Platinum Patching or EXADATA Bundle patching very easy.

I have basically divided the this as 4 parts as mentioned bellow

I. Pre-Work
II. Prechks
III. Patching
IV. Post checks


I. Pre-Work

1) Schedule a patching through Platinum Scheduling Tool which will generate the Patching SR# automatically.

Please refer the Platinum Scheduling Tool document 

2) Run and upload the Exachk report to Oracle SR# 4 to 5 weeks in advance

3) Fill the Patching_Template upload to Oracle SR# 4 to 5 weeks in advance 

Please refer the sample Patching Template

4) Patch Assessment (PA)- 4 weeks before the patching

Oracle Engineer will be uploading the Patch assessment to SR#, Pease review the same and take care of any issue noted in the SR#

5) Patch-Plan (PP)

Oracle Engineer will be uploading the Patch Plan to SR#, Pease review the same and take care of any issue noted in the SR#

6) Prechks - 1 week before the patching

Oracle Engineer will be uploading the Patch Prechks logs to SR#, Pease review the same and take care of any issue noted in the SR#


II. Prechks 

1) Please perform the OS backup 

Please refer the how to take EXADATA OS backup document

2) Pre-Patching Verification Steps.

Please execute and capture the Prechks logs as per the Pre-Patching Verification Steps


III. Patching 

Patching will be done by Oracle engineer and during the patching Oracle engineer will be keep updating the SR# as well as email communication with the patching progress


IV. Post checks

1. Post exachk report 

Run and upload the exachk report for the final verification or review by Oracle after patching
